Many in the newspaper distribution business are used to buying a program on a CD, paying a one-time fee (and maybe a maintenance fee each year as well), and running the software on their own computer. The Teak system is delivered in a very different way. It is delivered in the way that all software will be delivered 10 years from now and the way that the major software companies are moving right now. It is delivered as a service.

There are three main reasons why the Teak system is delivered as a service:

  • It is a cost-effective way to provide “big system” capabilities to the smallest of distributors. That, in turn, gives publishers more confidence in the data received from the smaller distributors. Since the system is provided as a service, the distributor does not need to “buy” it at a price of tens of thousands of dollars. Instead, the publisher pays to “use” it, with a small distributor paying a small fee and a larger distributor paying a larger fee, but all distributors getting value for money and the use of “big system” capabilities.
  • It allows Teak Systems Incorporated to provide a service as a “clearing house” for data from different distributors.
  • It facilitates communications (as noted above).

The service model has many other advantages over the “purchase” model. Here are some:

  • It provides affordable and continuous access to the latest technology.
  • There is no need for an expensive maintenance staff (or consultant) to install, configure and maintain the software.
  • It allows you to focus on your core competency instead of spending time on database and software administration.
  • Since the server is professionally maintained and stored in a data center, you get the advantage of top quality security, backup, disaster recovery, and support systems.
  • Time spent on administering an internal system is spent on more productive things.
  • Powerful processing power is available when you need it. You get big-system performance without paying for big system hardware.
  • The initial cost is much lower.
  • No complicated installation is needed. Point your browser to our site and you are ready to go.
  • There is no barrage of upgrade requirements. Applications that are constantly upgraded, "debugged", and made more useful and user friendly are the primary reasons that service applications are becoming popular. With Teak, improvements are constantly being made and you get immediate advantage of them - without doing or paying anything extra.
  • For many users, the biggest issue when considering service-based application is entrusting your data to an outsider. We are very sensitive to this and ensure that your data is more secure on their servers than on your hard drive. After all, do you maintain a secure, climate-controlled, redundant power, regular back-up bank of servers?
