One of the main objectives of the Teak News Delivery Service is to facilitate communications between distributors and their business partners. The best way that that can be accomplished is by using the Internet and having a “clearing house” approach for granting access to data. With respect to sharing information with publishers, the publishers will want a group view for multiple distributors and each publisher - as well as each distributor - will want to be sure that their data is kept confidential. The best way to accomplish that is to have that data in a central place with easy access by Internet and with security provided by a third-party service such as ours.

With respect to sharing information with customers, it is important to provide an “always on” view so that customers do not experience occasions when they try to access the data but cannot because the system is unavailable due to communications problems, power problems, or is being rebooted. In short, the data needs to be maintained in a data center environment.

But there are internal communications issues as well. Your drivers will need to “dock” their handheld devices from either your office or from their homes. If you want to get quick reporting, you cannot wait for the drivers to come in the next morning and transfer the previous morning’s data. They need to be able to send it from home as soon as they finish their route. In short, they need to use the Internet to upload their data.

And when there is a last minute decision to be made at two in the morning and you get a call at home, you need to be able to look into it from there and make the right decision based on the latest information. Again, the Internet allows that to happen.
